What does it mean to be a priest/priestess of an African spiritual tradition?

What does it really mean to be a priest/priestess of an African spiritual tradition?
Is it about feeling like you know EVERYTHING and having a huge ego?
Is it about having fifty 'leven spiritual titles?
Is it about having the biggest spiritual house and the most godchildren?
It's not about any of these things.
In the wise words of Malidoma Somé's grandfather,
the ancestors borrow our bodies to do work!
We are here to use the wisdom of our ancestors and the gifts bestowed upon us by Spirit to heal and protect the community.
It's okay to receive money, fame, recognition, etc.,
but if the work you're doing doesn't positively impact lives, it's utterly pointless.
